Overview

The Arun Valley and Everest Base Camp Trek takes you on a walking trail to the Everest Base Camp from the lower Makalu Region. This is the very trail used to reach the southern base camp of Mt Everest for the first time in 1950 by HW Tilman and Charles Houston. The trek offers a superlative Himalayan sceneries including the view of Mt Everest, Mt Makalu, Mt Baruntse, Mt Lhotse, Mt Nuptse, Mt Amadablam and Mt Thamserku, more than 650 species of birds and over 800 species of butterflies. The trail is perfect for those looking to avoid the tourist traffic as you will hardly see any trekkers on the fist leg of the trek. The trek begins from the lowlands of Nepali midhhills on the bank of Arun River, which originates in Tibet, and crosses multiple passes, yak pastures, lush forests, river valleys and settlements to reach Chaurikharka from where it meets the popular Everest Base Camp trail. It then reaches Everest Base Camp and ends at the popular Lukla airstrip.
