Overview

Humla Saipal Trek is one of the best walking adventures in the Nepal Himalayas. The trek is on the Humla and Farwest sections of the epic Great Himalaya Trail which spans the breadth of the Himalayas in Nepal. The fact that only a handful of foreigners have done this trek make it a must do trek for those looking for authentic trekking experience far from the madding crowd of trekkers. The trek takes you to the foot of the majestic Mt Saipal (7031m) where you get to walk around a glacial lake and walk on Nunekhera glacier that falls form the southern face of Saipal. Ranikharka, as the base camp is known as, is a beautiful pasture where you can see horses, sheep and Yak grazing peacefully. The trek begins with a scenic flight to Simikot airstrip of Humla. It then follows the popular Limi Valley Trek for two days but branches off toward west from a place called Salli Khola a little below Yelbang. It crosses Karnali River and makes a steep climb on a beautiful trail carved on a rocky cliff to the settlement of Chala. It then drops to Karang Khola, crosses it on a wooden bridge and climbs to Sakya Langa Pass (4709m) before descending to the Saipal Base camp. The trail then follows Kawadi Khola, which originates from Saipal itself, though the settlements of Lampato, Yuna and Duley, where it meets Karnali River again, to reach Kolti where the trek ends.
