Pikey Peak is getting a lot of fan following these days. Many say Pikey Peak offers view of the widest panorama of the Himalayas. On a clear day, one can enjoy view of all eight 8,000-meter peaks of Nepal – stretching from Kanchanjunga in the east to Dhaulagiri in the west. Pikey Peak offers an opportunity to enjoy view of some of the tall Himalayan peaks of the world without taking an ordeal of trekking to high altitude. The trek is pleasing as it passes through beautiful Sherpa settlements, ancient monasteries, terraced fields and rhododendron forest before climbing to alpine grasslands and then to the top. The trail is suitable for all as one has to trek beyond the tree line for a couple of days only. The Pikey Peak Trek can be started from different places – Jiri along the classi Everest Base Camp trail, Junbesi and Taksindhu in the lower Solukhumbu region. The best and the most attractive one is to start from Dhap on the newly-built road to the lower Solukhumbu region and end at Phaplu airport. Form here, you have the option of taking a flight to Kathmandu directly or enjoy a daylong drive.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu

Beautiful mountains, hills and terraced land will greet you once your aircraft enters the Nepali airspace. Very soon, you will land in Kathmandu Valley. Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, complete immigration formalities and meet your representative outside the arrival lounge. Get transferred to your hotel. In the evening, meet your guide and attend a trek briefing session.

Day 2
Drive to Dhap (2850m) -- Approx 7 hrs

Drive to your trek head today. After early breakfast, meet your guide at the hotel lobby and start driving toward Dhap. A section of today's drive is on the scenic BP Highway. Savor the view as the narrow road snakes through lust hills, terraced fields, beautiful settlements, terraced fields and bustling marketplaces. The road passes along Koshi river system – the largest river in Nepal and a major tributary of the Ganges. After leaving the river valley, the road climbs up toward the town of Okhaldhung. From here, Dhap is a drive of only about three hours. The road continues to Salleri in the lower Everest region. Stay in one of the teahouses of Dhap.

Day 3
Trek to Jhapre (2815m) -- Approx 5 hrs– Approx 8 hrs

Your trek begins in earnest today. Enjoy the view of Numbur, among other peaks, as you walk toward Jhapre village. It is a short walk of around five hours. Pass through beautiful terraced fields to the settlement of Sigane. A short climb from here will take you to Dhap. Dhap is the last settlement on Pikey trail. Beyond this village, you will only see teahouses and herders' camp.

Day 4
Trek to Pikey Base Camp (3640m) via Bhulbhule -- Approx 6 hrs

After leaving Jhapre, the trail climbs to a beautiful grassy ridge and continues on the ridge until you reach Bhulbhule. There are few teahouse. Your lunch will be served in one of them. Here, the trial splits into two. The one on the right will take you to Kinja in the Likhu River valley. Continue on the trail to the right. After leaving Bhulbhule, the trail enter a beautiful rhododendron forest of Taklung hill. The entire area would be blooming red in the spring season. The trail keeps opening up into grassy sections only to enter into the forests again. The trail opens up on ridge top offering beautiful views all around and soon goes to the other side of the ridge. The base camp is only about two hours' walk from here. There are few teahouses in Pikey Base Camp. You will stay in one of them. Go to bed early, as we will wake up early in the morning for a hike to Pikey Peak.

Day 5
Trek to Junbesi (2680m) via Pikey Peak (4065m) – Approx 7 hrs

After early breakfast, begin your trek along the rocky ridgeline to the top of Pikey. The walk is tiring but views from the top are rewarding. Enjoy the sunrise over tall Himalayan peaks like Everest (8848m), Number Chuli (6959m), Thamserku (6608m), Kangtega (6685m), Khatang (6853m), Kanchenjunga (8586m), Manaslu (8163m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Gaurishankar (7134m), Dorje Lakpa (6966m) and Langtang. Pikey offers perhaps the most expansive view of the Himalayas as on a clear day you can enjoy view of all eight-thousanders of Nepal. After enjoying the view, start descending to Lamjura Pass. Aircraft to Lukla fly over this pass. After lunch at Junbesi, make a descent to the beautiful Shrepa village of Junbesi.

Day 6
Explore Junbesi

Explore the beautiful Junbesi village today. Junbesi is seated on the banks of Junbesi Khola River. It is a major stopover on the classic Everest trail which begins from Jiri. After early breakfast, hike to the 19th century Thubtencholing Monastery. Interact with Lamas to get insights into the rich Shepra heritage and culture. Return to your teahouse for lunch. In the afternoon, explore Junbesi monastery located at the core of the village.

Day 7
Trek to Phaplu (2380m) -- Approx 5 hrs

Last day of your trek! Resume the walk after breakfast at your teahouse. Cross the Junbesi river and walk along the left banks of the river. The trail is more or less leveled and passes through the settlements of Khamje before reaching Beni where the Junbesi river meets Solu river fed by the glaciers of the Numbur Himal. Cross the river, and continue to walk on its left bank. After a walk of some three kilometers, the trail starts rising through a beautiful horticulture site to Phaplu airstrip. Have lunch and stay in your teahouse.

Day 8
Fly to Kathmandu

Walk to the airport about an hour before your flight time. The flight to Kathmandu takes about half an hour and offers you breathtaking views of mountains and the great topographical diversity that Nepal is known for. Upon arrival at the airport, board a waiting car and drive to your hotel. Remaining time is free for independent activities.

Day 9
Departure

Your last day in Nepal. Meet our representative at the hotel lobby who will drive you to the airport for your return flight. We will transfer you to the airport at least three hours before your flight time so that you don't have to rush for immigration formalities. In the comfort of your aircraft seat, you will have plenty of time to recollect the fun you had in Nepal and plan your next trip. Adios.
