Overview

Bheri River Rafting provides you the ultimate whitewater adventure in far-western Nepal. This tributary of Karnali River originates in Chharkha Bhot region in the trans- Himalayan region of Upper Dolpo and passes through deep canyons, lush forests, terraced fields as it flows through Mahabharat hills. It meets the Karnali River just before the mighty river cuts through the Chure hills to enter Bardiya National Park. The river snakes through hills and thick woods rich in diverse flora and fauna. While on this river trip, you can get a peek into the amazing countryside of western Nepal. Also get your fishing rods ready as the river is home to the amazing Himalayan mahasheer and other species of fish. Cap this trip with a jungle safari in Bardia National Park which is home to one of the largest populations of the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger in Nepal.

Getting there

This is one of the remotest river expeditions in Nepal. Getting to the put in point is a fun in itself. Take an about an hour-long flight to Nepalgunj Airport. You will meet your rafting crew at airport itself and start driving on the Karnali Highway. You will reach the put in point at Samjhighat in the evening.

Meals and Accommodation

You will stay in a three-star hotel in Kathmandu on sharing basis. Breakfast is complimentary. During river trips, however, you camps will be set up at beautiful beaches along the river. You rafting crew will cook and serve you three meals a day during the river journey. Cargo boat carries your food, camping and kitchen equipment and moves along you on the river. Most of the lunches, however, will be packed ones. It depends on your rafting schedule. Evenings will be fun as the crew members will sing and dance around the campfire. Next morning, everything will be packed and loaded on the cargo boat.

Best Season

The best season to enjoy Bheri River rafting is from October to the end of November, followed by April to June. In October-November the river will be high after the monsoon rains making the river a wild ride through different rapids. The April-June, before the monsoon begins, will be a bit quieter. Regardless of the season, the river offers you one of the best whiter water experiences as it passes through gorges, forests full of wildlife and some of Nepal’s least explored areas.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Nepal

Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, meet our representative who will extend you warm welcome and transfer you to your hotel. Remaining time is free for independent activities. In the evening, there will be a trip briefing session at your hotel.

Day 2
Fly to Nepalgunj and drive to Samjhighat

After early breakfast, our representative will drive you to Kathmandu airport for a flight to Nepalgunj. The flight takes about an hour. Upon arrival at the airport, board a waiting car/bus toward Samjhighat. The drive is pleasing as you gradually leave the plains of Tarai and start climbing up the amazing Bheri River valley in Surkhet. A drive of about three-hour hours will take you to your camp at Samjhighat.

Day 3
Raft to Kumalgaun

The river trip begins in earnest today. It’s a busy float initially. But you will encounter your first rapid in about 20 minutes. More rapids and twisted bends will follow as you float down. During easy floats, you can enjoy the amazing scenery of the countryside. You will stop for lunch after three hours of float. As your lunch is prepared, you can try angling to catch some fresh water fishes. After lunch, continue rafting down the river negotiating through more rapids and bends. Paddle down to the amazing camping site at Kumalgaun.

Day 4
Raft to Jamu

It will be the adventurous day as you will float through narrow gorge cut through by the river. You can see 200-300 feet cliffs on either side of the river. As the river narrows down due to the gorge, there are plenty of exciting rapids. After negotiating through the gorge, the river enters into an open valley. Pedaling further down, you will reach to your campsite at Jamu.

Day 5
Raft to Chisapani

This is going to be your last day of rafting. Begin paddling after having breakfast at your camp. After an easy float of around an hour, Bheri meets the magnificent Karnali River that originates in Mount Kailash in Tibet and flows to Chisapani where our amazing river trip ends. Load our boats in a waiting vehicle and drive to a jungle lodge in Bardiya National Park.

Day 6
Jungle Safari

After a good night’s rest at a proper accommodation, you will get a call for jungle activities. You can participate in jungle activities like jungle walk, jeep ride or elephant- back safari to get a view of different wildlife species like Royal Bengal Tiger. Trained wildlife guides make sure that you get the closest possible view of wildlife from the safest distance.

Day 7
Drive to Nepalgunj and Fly to Kathmandu

Today, you will fly back to Kathmandu. Your departure from the jungle lodge will depend on your flight schedule. The drive from the national park to the airport takes approximately two hours. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. If your flight time is rather early in the day, optional activities like city tour can be organized on request.

Day 8
Departure

Your final day in Nepal! After a leisurely breakfast, our representative will drive you to the airport for your return flight. We will make sure that you reach the airport at least three hours before your flight time so that you do not have to rush through customs and immigration formalities.
