Welcome to Nepal. Meet our representative at the airport and get transferred to your hotel. In the evening, meet your guide, check equipment and attend trek briefing.
O/N: HotelAfter breakfast, your guide will take you for a site seeing in Kathmandu Valley. Visit Pashupatinath Temple and Bouddhanath Stupa. Both are UNESCO World Heritage sites. After lunch, get transferred to the airport for your flight to Pokhara.
O/N: HotelAfter early breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the airport for a flight to Jomsom. The early morning flight will offer you breathtaking views of snowcapped mountains from the comfort of your aircraft seat. The flight takes some 20 minutes. Upon arrival in Jomsom, meet your trekking support team. After early lunch, take a leisurely walk toward Kagbeni.
O/N: LodgeYour trek begins in earnest today. The trail is easy till Muktinath Temple. From the temple, however, the trail climbs southward. After crossing Kali Gandaki River, climb a series of steps to a grassy pleateau locally known as Yak Kharka. Yak Kharka translates into Nepali as pastureland for yaks. You crew will set up a camp here.
O/N: TentToday, you will cross the first pass of your trek. It is going to be a challenging way as the trail is uphill once you leave the camp. After reaching Phalyak, continue walking westward until you reach Bhima Lojung Pass. Enjoy view of the pass and start descending toward Sangta. Packed lunch will be served for the lunch.
O/N: TeahouseThe trail today is on the gorge created by the river before the trail winds its way up to Jhansye (4195m). From here, the trail is easy as we cross a hillside. Once we cross the hillside, it makes a descent to Kyalunpa Khola and continue along its back to our campsite at Galdang Guldung.
O/N: TentAnother long day, as you will be doing two 5,000 meter passes today. The first pass in Jungben Pass which offers magnificent views to the south of the Hidden Valley as well as Mt Dhaulagiri. Then, continue your walk toward Niwa Pass. From here, make a descent to Maling Gompa where your camp will be set up.
O/N: TentContinue your walk toward Chharka Bhot. The walk is easy in the alpineland. Chharka Bhot is a fortified village. People have been living here for centuries. Your camp will be set up near the village.
O/N: TentTake a well-earned and much-needed rest day today. Explore the village and experience the culture, tradition and lifestyle of the local people.
O/N: TentHead westward from the village and descend to Chharka Tulsi Khola. Walk along the river, criss-crossing it many times, and make a short climb. Descend again to a small brook and climb up a trails with stone steps. Another climb of about an hour from here will take you to your camp site at Chhap Chhu.
O/N: TentYou will be crossing another high pass today. The trail to the pass is easy as you are not fully acclimatized. You will be rewarded with magnificent views of the arid landscape of Dolpa. After spending some time at the pass, descend on a winding trail to the valley below. From the valley, make a climb to a ridge above Sheru Khola. Continue walking till a chhorten. From there, descend to Tarpi Khola valley and to the village of Maran. Your destination, Dho Tarap, is only an hour’s walk from here.
O/N: TeahouseDho Tarap is a small valley comprising of three settlements of about 300 households and some 1,500 people. Dho is the main village. Tokyu, which lies slightly upstream at about 300 meters, has more or less the same number of households as Dho, while Lang is a small settlement of some 30 households. The main attraction is the Bon, Buddhism and Amchi tradition and philosophy. Visit Ribum Gompa nunnery and Regu chhorten.
O/N: TeahouseBegin the day with a walk to Tokyu village. The trail passes through cultivated fields of barley, buckwheat and potato. From Tokyu village, it’s a steep climb toward the Numa La Base Camp. The trail offers fascinating view of the valley behind you. You camp is set up just below the Numa La Pass.
O/N: TentStart early, as you are crossing a high pass today. The trail is very steep till the top of the pass. The view from the top, however, is rewarding. Enjoy views of surrounding valley as well as the magnificent north face of Dhaulagiri massif as well as other snowcapped peaks far away. After enjoying the view, start your descent toward Phedi, which is located at the base of another high pass – Baga La, where your camp will be set up.
O/N: TentLike yesterday, start from your camp early, as you will be doing another high pass today. The trail, as expected, is steep as Bag La Pass is more or less of same height of Numa La Pass. The top provides breathtaking view of Mount Kanjiroba and other peaks. After spending some time at the top, start descending toward Dajoktang. Your camp will be set up either at Dajoktang or Yak Kharka.
O/N: TentThe walk is easy today. After leaving Yak Kharka, you enter a beautiful pine forest. The trail is mostly downhill. The breathtaking view of Phoksundo Lake will greet you before you reach Ringmo. Ringmo is a seasonal village of about 200 people. People here are mostly of Tibetan origin and follow Bon religion. Yak herding, trading and tourism are the main occupations of people living here.
O/N: Tent/TeahouseYou will get a rest day today to explore Ringmo Village and Phoksundo Lake. Phoksundo Lake – one of the the largest in Nepal – is a spending turquoise water body. Suligad River, which joins Bheri, drains this lake. The river forms a magnificent waterfall of 167 meters below the village. Also visit a Bon temple just outside the Ringmo village.
O/N: Tent/TeahouseLeave Ringmo along the banks of Suligad and start walking toward Chhepka. The trail passes through beautiful birch forests as you descend slowly to Chhepka. The trail is busy as you are now in the easier lower Dolpo region. The walk takes approximately 7 hrs. There are good teahouses available in Chhepka.
O/N: Tent/TeahouseAfter breakfast, continue your walk toward Suligad or Dunai – the district headquarters of Dolpa. As we continue to walk in the lower altitude, the surrounding is greener. Continue your walk along the banks of Suligad River. Before reaching Suligad, you will see national park office where you will be required to show your permit. From Suligad, it is a short climb to Dunai – the district headquarters of Dolpa.
O/N: TeahouseFrom Dunai, we walk westward toward Tripurakot. We pass by a STOL airfield at Juphal and continue our walk toward Tripurakot. The trail is downhill for couple of hours, but starts to climb up after reaching a valley. A walk of around 6 hours from Dunai will take you to your destination of the day. Tripurakot gets its name from the Tripurasundari Temple which is located on a ridgetop.
O/N: TentThe trail starts climbing from the very beginning today. You won’t feel much tired as the trail passes through lush vegetation. You pass through beautiful villages like Liku and Pahara and beautiful pasture fields for yaks as your progress further. It will take an easy walk of some seven hours to reach Ghodakhor.
O/N: TentYour last walking day! Continue uphill climb from Ghodakhor toward the last pass of your trek. The trail mostly passes through woods. After reaching a pastureland, however, the trail gradually uphills to Balangra Pass. After enjoying the view for some time, start making your descent. Kiagaun, your destination of the day, is not far away. Kaigaun is a small village in Dolpa district surrounded by pine forest. It is located near the border with Jumla.
O/N: Tent/TeahouseToday, you will board a four-wheeler and drive toward Jumla. Be prepared for an off-road adventure as the road is not blacktopped. It will take around 8 hrs to reach Khalanga – the district headquarters of Jumla. Jumla is a bustling town with good hotels. You will stay in one of those. Back to modernization, yeh!
O/N: HotelTake a morning flight to Nepalgunj from Jumla. The flight takes around 30 minutes. Upon arrival in Nepalgunj, take a flight back to Kathmandu which takes around an hour. After arriving in Kathmandu, get transferred to your hotel. In the evening, a grand farewell dinner will be organized, at a typical Nepali restaurant in your honor, to celebrate successful completion of the trek.
