Overview

Langtang Valley Trek, is a short and easy trekking route lying north of the Kathmandu Valley. The trail passes through beautiful settlements of the indigenous Tamang people and allows trekkers an opportunity to observe their culture, tradition and lifestyle upclose. Lush forest, fast flowing rivers, numerous small streams and encounter with wildlife make this trek an amazing walking experience. Further, Langtang Valley is home to the endangered Red Panda and Snow Leopard. If you are lucky, you can watch these wild species in their habitat. Langtang Valley Trek is ideal for those who are looking for a short trek rich in nature, culture and adventure.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu (1330m)

Our representative will meet you upon your arrival in Kathmandu airport and transfer you to your hotel. Remaining time is free for independent activities. You can simply take a rest in your hotel room, or step out in the neighbor for a short stroll. In the evening, meet your guide and discuss about your equipment and trek program.

Day 2
Full Day Sightseeing

Today, our tour guide will take you for full-day sightseeing of Kathmandu Valley as we complete your permit formalities. We begin the day with a visit to Swoyambhunath Stupa -- a landmark Buddhist temple in Kathmandu and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Popular among tourists as Monkey Temple, the main attraction is a white-washed dome and a glittering golden spire. Then we move on to Kathmandu Durbar Square -- another UNESCO World Heritage sites. Here you can see temples and monuments dating back to 17th century. It used to be the seat of Malla rulers and the now deposed Shah kings. After lunch, we move to Bouddhanath Stupa -- the biggest stupa complex in South Asia and a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is also a white-washed dome capped by a glittering golden spire. The ambience here is quite amazing as you can see incense sticks burning and pilgrims circumambulating the stupa chanting sacred mantras. It is believed to have been built in the 5th century. Then we move on to our hotel.

Day 3
Drive to Syafrubensi (1550m) -- Approx 7 hrs

After breakfast, we start our drive to Syafrubensi. We leave Kathmandu from Nagdhunga pass and drive down winding roads to Galchhi Bazaar on the Prithvi Highway -- that links Kathmandu with Pokhara. From there, we take the right road along the banks of the Trishuli River and start driving toward Syafrubensi. After crossing Betrabati, we start getting views of different snow-capped mountains, notably of Ganesh Himal and Langtang ranges. The narrow road snakes through lush forest, terraced field and the beautiful countryside. Passing through small towns like Kalikasthan and Dhunche, we finally reach Syafrubensi after crossing powerhouse of a hydroelectric project.

Day 4
Trek to Lama Hotel (2450m) -- Approx 6-7 hours

We hit the trail today. We begin the day after crossing the Bhotekoshi River, which originates in Tibet, and walk along the banks of Langtang Khola. After passing through a monastery of Guru Rimpoce, we follow the stone-paved trail till we cross the suspension bridge over Langtang Khola. After that, the trail makes a gradual climb to a small settlement of Bamboo. From here, the trail goes along the sub-tropical mainly of oak, maple, spruce, fir and blue pine and rhododendron trees. These forests are inhabited by yellow-throated martens, wild boars, Langur monkeys, red pandas and Himalayan black bears, among other wild species. From Bamboo we reach Rimche (2400m) before ending our day’s walk at Lama Hotel.

Day 5
Trek to Langtang Village (3430m) -- Approx 4-5 hours

We resume our trek after having breakfast at our lodge. We begin the day with a gentle climb initially. The trail soon becomes steeper as we gain altitude. We climb through hemlock, oak and maple forest. During spring, blooming rhododendrons add colors to the forest. We get view of Mt. Langtang Lirung (7244m) far in the horizon as we progress forward. After crossing the river on a log bridge, we make a brief climb and reach lush meadows of Ghora Tabela (2992m). The trail climbs further until a the valley opens up. We continue walking across the the helipad and yak pastures, and climb briefly through rhododendron forest and small Tamang settlements. After a brief walk from here, we reach the Langtang Village. The village, which was sept away by an avalanche after the 2015 earthquakes, has stood up and locals here are serving trekkers as usual. Langtang is one of the largest settlements in the region. Locals here grow buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips and barley. Yak farming is another profession of local people.

Day 6
Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3870m) -- Approx 3 hours

We are approaching closer to our destination. As usual, we resume walk after having breakfast at our lodge. The trail passes through the Langtang Village and climbs a ridge with a beautiful chorten. The trail then passes along a beautiful mani wall, crossing a stream to the small village of Mundu (3442m). After crossing several small streams, the Kyanjin Gompa -- the major landmark in this village -- appear before us. Behind this beautiful monastery, we can see the peaks of Langtang Lirung and Kimshung. After arriving in the village, we check into our lodge. After lunch, we have plenty of time to explore this village. We will visit a government-owned yak cheese factory. You can buy some as souvenirs for your friends and families back home. The village offers breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung (7246m), Genjempol, Kyanjin RI (4750m), Tsergo RI (5000m), Ganja la (5160m), Langshisa- Ri (6427m), Dorje Lhakpa (6430m), Naya Kang (5844m.), Yala peak (5500m), and several other peaks.

Day 7
Day hike to Tsergo Ri (4,980m)

Tsergo Ri is the beautiful viewpoint above Kyanjin Gompa. It’s a strenous climb but view from the top is rewarding. From the top, you can get 360 degree views of mountains all around you including Mt Shishapangma in Tibet. The hike takes around four hours and you need to negotiate icy zig-zag trail till the top. We can see a wide range of Himalayan peaks as well as the Langtang Valley with the trail leading over to the famed Ganja La Pass. The last section of the trail is on a rocky surface. You can see prayer flags fluttering on the summit. The trail made be strenous, but views are among the best in the world. We then return to our lodge. Those looking for easier hike can try other alternatives like the hike to Kyanjin Ri which is a bit easier.

Day 8
Trek to Lama Hotel -- Approx 6 hrs

Today, we begin return leg of our trek. After enjoying the mountains one last time, we gradually start walking toward the Langtang Village. We follow the same trail, descending along the banks of the Langtang Khola to Ghoda Tabela and further to Lama Hotel where we stop for the night. You will get different views today compared to what you saw while going up.

Day 9
Trek to Syafrubensi -- Approx 5 hrs

This is going to be the last walking day of our trekking program. We resume walk after breakfast. The trail is mostly downhill through lush vegetation. Take time to observe unique culture, tradition and lifestyle of the indigenous Tamang people. Finally, we reach to our destination after crossing the Bhote Koshi River.

Day 10
Drive back to Kathmandu -- Approx 7 hrs

Today, we drive back to Kathmandu. The narrow road winds down lush hill as we reach the flatlands of Trishuli Bazaar. From there, the road follows Trishuli River until Galchhi where we meet the highway linking Kathmandu with Pokhara. From there, Kathmandu is only a drive of some two hours. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel.In the evening, we will organize a farewell dinner for you offering you typical Nepali food while showcasing traditional Nepali songs and dances.

Day 11
Departure

Your last day in Nepal. Our representative will transfer you to the international airport for your return flight. If your flight is later in the afternoon, we can arrange you some activities if you are interested. While returning back, you will have plenty of time to reflect on this beautiful trek and plan your next holiday.
