Despite increasing movement of tourists, people have been able to preserve their timeless culture and tradition. Arid and rugged landscape, simple way of living, ancient monasteries and high passes, are the major attraction of this trail. The region is heavily inspired from Tibetan Buddhism. Murals, mani walls, chhortens speak loud and clear the influence of TIbetan Buddhism in the area. Ancient monasteries of Upper Mustang are a repository of historical Buddhist texts, statues and idols. Also, this place lies on the ancient trade route between China and the Indian subcontinent.
