Overview

The beautiful Tsum Valley nestles in northern reaches of Gorkha district in western Nepal along the border with Tibet. It is considered one of Beyuls - Buddhism’s sacred valleys where spirituality is still alive - and is home to several ancient monasteries. The residents of Tsum Valley are called Tsumbas who have different dialect, culture, lifestyle and tradition as compared to other Buddhist people living in the northern Nepal. Before the valley opened to foreigners recently, which brought tourism revenue, the locals were entirely dependent on agriculture, animal husbandry and trade with Tibet for living. Even in this fast-paced life, people here can be seen growing barely or tending to yaks and other livestock. One can see several Mani walls or chhortens along the trail to Tsum Valley which speaks loud and clear about the rich Buddhist heritage in the area. Tsum Valley is surrounded by the majestic Bauddha Himal, Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal and other mountain ranges. Tucked between the Ganesh Himal and the Manaslu regions, it is a perfect trek for those looking for an off-the-beat trek rich in culture, religion, vivid landscape and mountain views. The Tsum Valley trail branches off the popular Manaslu Circuit Trek a little above Jagat and contours northward.
