GHT - Everest & Rolwaling

The Everest & Rolwaling section of GHT takes you to the foot of Mount Everest. The trail begins from the world famous Lukla airport and progresses to beautiful Sherpa villages of Phakding, Namche Bazaar and Tengboche before meeting the Great Himalaya Trail at Dingboche. Instead of directly hitting the GHT, it takes you to a vantage point at Kalapatthar which offers magnificent view of the Everest range and the Everest Base Camp before continuing on the epic trail. The trail crosses two high passes, Cho La and Renjo La, before dropping Thame and crosses the highest pass of the section, Tashi Lapcha, to enter the Gaurishankar Conservation Area in the Rolwaling Valley. It then climbs a ridge above the beautiful Bigu Monastery before dropping to The Last Resort in Sindhupalchowk district which marks the end of this section. Kathmandu is only a half-day drive from here. The Everest part of this section is crowded as it is one of the most popular walks in the world. However, the Rolwaling part is in complete wilderness and you could have the trail all to yourself.
